Description
The Xhosa women are famous for their colourful dresses and headscarves
They are also famous for the Xhosa language which is full of characteristic "clicks" made famous by Miriam Makeba. Most Westerners find it almost impossible to pronounce the "Clicks"
The women are most elegant and walk with graceful upright posture wich I tried to capture.
The Xhosa (pronounced [kǁʰɔsɑ]) people one of the 11 main tribes of South Africa are speakers of Bantu languages living in south-east South Africa. The Xhosa refer to themselves as the amaXhosa and to their language as isiXhosa.
Many Xhosa live in Cape Town (iKapa in Xhosa), East London (iMonti), and Port Elizabeth (iBhayi).
The Xhosa are part of the South African Nguni migration which slowly moved south from the region around the Great Lakes, displacing the original Khoisan hunter gatherers of Southern Africa.
